John Locke was born in Somerset, England, on August 29, 1632. He later attended Oxford and lectured about Greek, rhetoric, and moral philosophy. Locke also founded the school of Empiricism.
Modern political thinking has been greatly impacted by his radical work and thinking. He believed that all people are born good, independent, and equal, and that they are naturally moral and reasonable born free. People possess certain inalienable rights, Locke said, to protect their life, liberty, and property.
Locke believed full heartedly in democratic rule. A democratic government is set up by the people and is for the people. This would make it easier to protect land and family. A democratic rule would take power away from one leader, and distributes it, creating a system called checks and balances. This would help keep the power of all three sections (legislative, executive, and judicial), at a balance. No one could over ride the others authority.
